On October 12, the final of the 7th National College Students Steel Structure Innovation Competition hosted by China Steel Construction Society was held in Shanghai. Our student team consisting of Liu Zichen, Liu Xuekang and Liu Jianfei from the School of Civil Engineering, and Wang Xinbo, Li Yiqin and Cao Shang from the School of Architecture, under the joint guidance of Professor Li Haiwang, Associate Professors Cheng Xin and Li Tiane, as well as Hao Zhiwei from the School of Architecture, stood out from the 29 finalists with excellent results and won the first prize in the competition as the second place.
With the concept of "serving the community", the work The Story of the Courtyard - Pingyao Community Service Center by Taiyuan University of Technology takes Rishengchang District of the Ancient City of Pingyao as the background to build a community service center. By introducing a ramp as the form of transportation, connecting two main streets and enclosing courtyards, the architecture opens to the Ancient City of Pingyao, attracting more residents or tourists to enter and depicting the story of people's livelihood. In addition, people who come for the nucleic acid test and vaccination can also line up on the ramp during the pandemic. This work fully considers the integration of architecture and structure, so that the architecture can be better integrated into the Ancient City of Pingyao. In terms of structure, the main frame structure is combined with local large space. Innovative joints with fully bolted connections, weather-resistant steel sections, and three - way adjustable movable partitions are used. In this way, the design principle of large space, assembly, module and long life can be realized while achieving the transformation of space function, which conforms to the design concept of "cultural tourism building".
The theme of the competition is "Community Service Center", which requires the design work to reflect the characteristics of steel structure architecture, namely, safety and durability, comfortable use, easy maintenance and transformation, energy saving and environmental protection, and embody the new building form that meets the needs of sustainable development, high efficiency and energy saving and green environmental protection. The National College Students Steel Structure Innovation Competition hosted by China Steel Construction Society is a high-level national discipline competition in the field of steel structure, aiming to cultivate students' cooperative spirit, strengthen the training of students' engineering practice quality, and promote the combination of production, learning and research, thus creating conditions for excellent steel structure innovation talents to stand out.
